Short description: In recent years it has been discovered that topology can play a crucial role in understanding certain phases of matter. In these phases, the system does not break any symmetries, yet some hidden form of order and exotic excitations are present. This seminar and workshop program brings together leading scientists working on topological phenomena in condensed matter systems, with an emphasis on phenomena which arise due to inter-particle interactions.

Topics to be discussed:

  • Topological orders
  • Classification of topological phases
  • Symmetry protected topological phases
  • Symmetry enriched topological phases
  • Fractional quantum Hall
  • Optical lattice realizations of topological phases
  • Topological spin liquids
  • Numerical simulations of topologically ordered systems
  • Detection of topological orders
  • Topological quantum computing
