Computational Approaches to the Microtubule Cytoskeleton

François Nédélec

I will present two examples of positionning processes, and our computational approaches to study them. In the first example, I will discuss how fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe maintains its nucleus in the center by pushing on cells ends. I will explain how this may be relevant to the problem of morphogenesis. In the second example, I will discuss the positionning of the spindle in C.elegans, and try to address the respective contribution of pulling and pushing forces. I will also discuss some biological insights derived from these models.
