Perspectives in spintronics

Spintronics, especially seminconductor spintronics, has evolved into a flourishing multidisciplinary field. Spin properties in bulk and low dimensional semiconductors - quantum wells and quantum dots - are being actively pursued, as well as novel ferromagnetic seminconductors are being discovered for spintronics applications. I will discuss recent developments in the field, present challenges and open questions, as well as describe our progress in theoretical description of spin relaxation in quantum dots, magneto-anisotropic tunneling, and seminconductor spintronic devices.
