Evolution of excited electron bubbles in liquid 4He and the birth of baby bubbles

Electrons in bubbles can absorb light and be excited to higher energy states, eventually causing large changes in size and shape to the e-bubble. Within density functional theory, we have nvestigated the decay of e-bubbles in 1P states, which may proceed by radiative or non-radiative (sound emission) processes, and the appearance of "baby bubbles" around the two lobes of the 1P electron probability density.
