International Workshop on

NANOSTRUCTURES IN PHOTOVOLTAICS

July 28 to August 4, 2001
Scientific coordinators:

Richard Corkish Stefan Kettemann Jenny Nelson
University of New South Wales Universität Hamburg Blackett Laboratory Imperial College
Sydney, Australia Hamburg, Germany London, England
This meeting brings together experts from photovoltaics (PV) and the physics of nanostructures to tackle some of the key challenges facing next generation photovoltaics. It aims to achieve a better understanding of the potential and limitations of nanostructures in PV; to promote a continuing dialogue and collaborations between experts in the different fields; and to stimulate new directions in photovoltaic research. It will incorporate introductory lectures for non-specialists from the different fields, as well as research talks on all aspects of the theme and opportunities for informal discussions. The proceedings will be published in the scientific press. Graduate students and young scientists are especially encouraged to take part.

Topics: Low-dimensional structures in photovoltaics; Specific realisations of nanostructures for PV: quantum well and quantum dot solar cells, multi-band solar cells, dye-sensitised PV, solar cells based on molecular materials; Charge separation in quantum heterostructures; Charge transport in low-dimensional and self-organised nanostructures; Photovoltaic effects in nanostructures; Optical properties of nanostructures and their use in PV; Design of novel materials for PV
