We invite applications on the Postdoc and PhD student level to the
Mesoscopic Systems Group at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of
Complex Systems (MPIPKS), Dresden, Germany.
Applications are accepted
until the available positions are filled.
The research will be on "Many-body effects in mesoscopic systems",
a project funded within the
Emmy-Noether Program of the German Research Foundation, and/or on "Optical microcavities", a project funded within the Research Group 760 of the German Research Foundation.
The interests of the group are in condensed matter theory of
mesoscopic systems with emphasis on many-body effects and on quantum chaos in optical microcavities and microlasers.
We apply concepts from quantum chaos to understand the influence
of the system's geometry, i.e., a regular, chaotic, or mixed
structure of the underlying classical phase space, on observable
quantities and we study differences between the many-body effects
of mesoscopic and bulk materials.
We are looking for people with strong skills in theoretical and/or
computational condensed matter physics. A background in the areas
mesoscopic physics, quantum chaos, or strongly
correlated electronic systems is advantageous but not necessary.
MPIPKS, a leading research institute in
Germany, provides an open and stimulating atmosphere and many
opportunities to interact with other researchers via the
institute's Visitor's Program and the International Max Planck
Research School.
Applicants should send their CV, list of publications and a
brief description of research interests to:
Dr. Martina Hentschel, MPIPKS Dresden, Nöthnitzer Str. 38, D-01187 Dresden, Germany
or via email to martina(at)pks.mpg.de.
In addition, each applicant should arrange for
two letters of reference to be sent to the above
address. Applications are accepted until the positions are filled.
Females, minorities, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
