The development of high-power laser systems generating ultrashort pulses
down to the sub-fs regime has led to many exciting studies on the response of atoms, molecules, clusters and solids to an intense
electromagnetic radiation field. At the same time interest in the
propagation of such laser pulses in optical media has been renewed in view of the fact that the peak power is high enough to induce
nonlinear phenomena in
any optical medium.
The seminar and workshop are intended to provide a ground for presentation and discussion of the current trends in both areas. The seminar also gives an introduction to the fundamental understanding of the physics of the interactions for PhD students and PostDocs through lectures given by experts of the fields (* attendance to be confirmed):

The international workshop (August 15-19) focuses on the latest results in both areas with invited talks and poster presentations on atoms/molecules/clusters in intense fields, coherent control, high harmonic generation and attosecond pulses, femtosecond pulse propagation and applications and high intensity lasers and applications.

Costs for accommodation and meals will be
covered by the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems.
In exceptional cases, limited funding is available to
