The standard model of conduction electrons in metals presumes that the interactions among electrons can be described by a few parameters, leading to quasiparticles that can be treated within the framework of Fermi-liquid theory. In recent years striking deviations from the behavior predicted by Fermi-liquid theory have been observed in different types of solids. These ,,non-Fermi-liquid'' effects have very different physical origins.

The purpose of the Workshop is to bring together experimentalists and theorists working in different areas of condensed matter physics where non-Fermi liquid effects come into play, such as various types of quantum phase transitions, low dimensional systems, and the quantum Hall effect.

Application forms are available upon request or on the conference web page. The registration fee for the workshop is DM 150. Costs for accommodation and meals will be covered by the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems. Limited funding to partially cover travel expenses is available upon request.

Deadline for applications is June 30, 1999
