    • http://www.mpipks-dresden.mpg.de/~fields/index.html
    public transport
    • Public transport is a really convenient choice for getting around in Dresden. If you plan to use it, we suggest that you get yourself either the one-week ticket for 24,-DM or the 4-weeks ticket for 65,-DM. Tickets can be bought at the station of tram 3 just outside the institute.

    money
    • You will only receive your travel money, after you completed and submitted the "questionnaire" as in your welcome folder.

    • There is a "Sparkasse" just down the "Nöthnitzer Straße" (towards "Plauen") which features an international automated teller machine.

    food and beverages
    • Eventually you may want to get yourself some food and beverages from outside the institute's cafeteria. Insider sources have told us that within 5 minutes walk along the tram tracks towards the city center, you will find a bakery and a butcher on the right hand side of the street. A few more minutes in the same direction will get you to a general food store (Konsum) on the left hand side of the street.

    • The Technical University Dresden (TUD) has a mensa which offers a large variety of meals every weekday. Follow the Nöthnitzer Str. in the direction of new MPI buildings and take the third (?) street to the left.

    • You can also go towards the center of Plauen, where you will find many shops. Just follow the Nöthnitzer Str. (direction opposite to the TUD)

    • In case you want to sample the local cuisine, there are many restaurants and pubs located in the "Neustadt" (new city) area of Dresden. Take tram 3 until station "Albertplatz", and enjoy your meal.

    shopping
    • The main shopping part inside Dresden is very close to the main train station. Take tram 3 until "Pirnaischer Platz" and then its 300m until the "Prager Straße".
