Test of QED in the strong electromagnetic fields of
highly charged ions
Highly charged ions provide the strongest electromagnetic
fields accessible to experimental investigations.
This allows for a test of quantum electrodynamics
in strong external fields. Radiative corrections
are calculated. Theoretical results for the Lamb shift,
for the hyperfine structure splitting and for the g-factor
of a bound electron are compared with available experimental data.
