Please note my new address after October 1, 1999:
Please note that starting from May 1, 2002, my research group will be moved
from Bonn to Köln. The Institut für Theoretische Chemie
at the Universität zu Köln was founded in May 2002.
Openings: one postdoctoral position as well as two PhD student position are currently available.
Research efforts in Kön will probably start until autumn 2002. For the time being I
still can be reached under the above postal address, e-mail, phone and fax numbers in Bonn.
And (as most of us) I'm still searching for a better (?) position ...

Current Research Activites
My research topics are:
(1) relativistic effects in systems with heavy and superheavy elements;
(2) relativistic pseudopotential methods;
(3) relativistic density functional calculations;
(4) accurate investigation of systems containing lanthanides and actinides, e.g.,
metallocenes;
(5) size-dependent properties of small and medium-sized clusters of zinc, cadmium and mercury,
especially the transition from van der Waals to covalent (and finally metallic) bonding;
(6) electron correlation treatment for infinite systems, e.g., polymers and solids;
(7) the cleaveage of peptide bonds by zinc-containing enzymes, i.e., thermolysin
(an obviously never ending research project !).
