The investigation of cold Rydberg gases has opened the possibility of studies including long timescales atomic interaticon as well as ultra-long range potentials. In this work we have investigated resonant Dipole-Dipole energy trasnfer during the collisions involving prepared Rydberg atoms in a cold sample of Rb atoms. The specific process investigated are: 32S+32S->32P+31P and 32P+32P->33S+31S, in the presence and absence of external E-field. The temporal evolution of the processes are measured and compared with models based on binary atomic collisions and motion on the interatomic potentials. We have compared our experimental results with the model and serached for an atomic density dependence that indicates the presence of alternative mechanisms. The good agreement between data and model indicates the validity of the model. Many different aspects of the problem are discussed. ( Work supported by FAPESP, CNPq and CAPES) |
